This quaint, tiny, cafe found in an arcade connecting Surfers Paradise Boulevarde and Orchard Avenue, serves flavoursome Japanese food. The seafood on the day we dined was fresh and the portion sizes, generous. The tempura cuttlefish was so tender, it needed no chewing at all. Amimoto offers excellent value for money.

As we have a group of 7 person, we need to call and book advance to get a table. The food price is reasonable and the portion is good too. I have sashimi with rice and it is fresh. The staff here is friendly.

Felt like i was back in the alleyways of Hong Kong. Bento box was great. Doesn't look flash just laid back with delicious fresh food at a great price.

Amimoto has the freshest fish you will ever eat! In touristy Surfer's Paradise it is a breath of fresh air: authentic, quick and reasonably priced. I had the California thick roll, tuna roll, tuna sushi and prawn sushi. The tuna is amazing- melts in your mouth like a tender steak! My husband had the J-set (tuna roll and sushi and salmon roll and sushi) as well as an eel roll and loved every bite. Miso soup and complimentary iced tea were great too. Only small negative is that it is a little hard to find: it is inside a little enclave between several convenience stores and a honey shop, not on a large street.

This is a hidden gem, so glad we stumbled upon it. I had the mixed raw fish bowl with sushi rice and it came out looking so fresh and actually really pretty! Tasted great too. It was a generous serving and really great value. It's really a hole in the wall type place, you sit on plastic chairs and tables but if you're after some fresh, good value Japanese in surfers, this is the place! Its also BYO (i think they charged us $2 each) and cash only

Been there the first time, couldn't order sushi or sashimi because they said it was 7:30pm and they closes at 8:00pm, then 5 mins later the waitress said kitchen closed no order taken because it was TOO LATE?! What, An hour till closing time is too late?! Then the second time the same, got told if want sushi have to come back early. So the third time I went there at 1:00pm lunch time, the same waitress with very bad attitude told me I will have to wait 30 mins for several sushi roll, then 2 mins later she came back told me "sorry can you wait 45mins?" Well, whats so special about this restaurant? One thing that I know it's that there's only one chef serving everybody and he is freaking slow. You know what, I will save my money somewhere else, and thank you we really enjoyed the grumpy old chef and the rude waitress preferred not to serve us for THREE TIMES!!! Never go back there again:(((

Very odd setting - and very non gold coast décor, which made it more fun... free tea and water. Book as it is tiny - just down laneway off Cavill Ave, food amazing, Sushi set great Sashimi with great miso soup. $94 for five of us exceptional value, don't walk by give it a go.

My wife and I went to Amimoto today for lunch. We selected it based on reviews only and when we saw where is was we were a little cautious as it is located in an old tired arcade. We were tired and hungry so we ignored the drab surrounds and sat down. We selected gyoza, combination tempura and a sushi set each. We helped ourselves to tea (it's a very basic but clean space) and waited for the food.We were so glad we didn't walk away. The gyoza were delicious and juicy (not dry like gyoza often are) and had a good kick of ginger. The tempura was outstanding. I don't thin I've had better. The batter was light and crisp and not a hint of oiliness. It was fantastic - we could have eaten another serving it was so good. The sushi sets were also great. Delicious and super fresh, with really good quality fish and prawns and beautiful miso soup.If you're sick of Gold Coast eateries that have an A grade fitout and D grade food, come here. You will not be disappointed.Word of warning - it's not a big restaurant so book ahead!
